TLP = Transformational Leadership Project

tlp1Have you ever wondered what makes some leaders GREAT and others simply EFFECTIVE?

What makes some businesses stand out as community leaders and others simply make a profit?

The difference is Transformational Leadership.

What is Transformational Leadership?

Let’s take a quick look at these definitions:

Transformational leadership

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transformational leadership is a style of leadership where the leader is charged with identifying the needed change, creating a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executing the change in tandem with committed members of the group. It also serves to enhance the motivation, morale, and job performance of followers through a variety of mechanisms; these include connecting the follower’s sense of identity and self to the project and the collective identity of the organization; being a role model for followers in order to inspire them and raise their interest in the project; challenging followers to take greater ownership for their work, and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of followers, allowing the leader to align followers with tasks that enhance their performance.

Transformational Leadership Examples in Business

by Chirantan Basu, Demand Media

Transformational business leadership can result in extraordinary changes in direction. An example would be a new chief executive officer revitalizing a company and returning it to profitability. According to City University of New York professors Hershey H. Friedman and Mitchell Langbert, characteristics of transformational leaders include vision, confidence, courage and a willingness to make sacrifices.

tlp2Looking at the above illustration, you will notice that Transformational Leadership (TL) is more focussed on the personal qualities of the leader while Transactional Leadership is systems driven.  We don’t even need to address Laissez-Faire Leadership here.

Most leaders and their businesses exist in the Transactional Leadership box where they make a good product and sell it for a fair profit.  The employees show up, do their job, and go home without feeling a sense of true accomplishment or achievement that fulfills them.  In short, most business, their leaders, and the employees exist at only the second level of Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs.

tlp3If a business leader wants to be regarded as a leader in the community and held as an example for other businesses, there certainly need to be systems in place for smooth and efficient operation of daily tasks, but a personal transformation for top management is what transforms the business, and it’s leader, into a pillar of the community.

Transformational leaders inspire great loyalty and trust in their followers. They have high expectations, and they inspire their people to reach their goals.

You can become a transformational leader by following these steps:

Create an inspiring vision of the future.

Motivate people to buy into and deliver the vision.

Manage delivery of the vision.

Build ever-stronger, trust-based relationships with your people.

That’s what I assist business leaders with – making the personal transformation from good to great.  Transformational Leadership is all about reaching the top of Maslow’s pyramid where you feel deep satisfaction from going to work everyday and the community recognizes you for it.

Working personally with business executives, I have a unique 5 step process that many consider to be a total make-over.  It involves assessing the climate and culture of the business, then the leadership skills and styles of the executives.  From there, together we will custom design a plan and schedule of transformation.  Every business and each executive are different, so too are the plans we create together.

In the past 30 years of business ownership, I have developed a unique skill set that includes tools I can use to guide you through your transformation.  These include, but are not limited to:

  • Life Coaching
  • Business Coaching
  • Public Speaking Coaching
  • Fitness and Martial Arts Coaching
  • Team Leadership Development
  • Sales Training

If you are ready to take the challenge, and make the commitment to yourself, to start on the path to Transformational Leadership, then contact me for a private consultation.  I look forward to working with you.
